7 day Flavors of Sicily Cooking Tour
Cooking program starts 10th March 2019
discover the delicious cuisine of the largest island of Italy. Sought by all civilizations: Greeks, Phoenicians, Arabs, Normans and Spanish, they all conquered it at some time or another and all left their mark in the food, the monuments and ancient buildings, with a wonderful mix of cultures. Sicily has a great cuisine with interesting flavors and colors not found in mainland Italy. We will learn both the traditional Sicilian like cannoli, pasta con le sarde, tuna and swordfish dishes as well as contemporary dishes, 4 cooking classes with famous Chef Peppe Buffa, one of the more inventive Sicilian chefs, accompanied by great Sicilian wines! Sicily produces great wines, like Nero D'Avola, Ansonica, Catarratto and Grillo, blended with international grape varieties to produce superior wines, still for a bargain! We will visit wineries and street markets, monuments and hill towns and eat great food and drink great wines!! The best Western Sicily has to offer!

Day 1
arrival at Hotel Politeama in the center of Palermo.
Aperitif at 7,30 pm, review the program and go to dinner at a local restaurant with great contemporary sicilian dishes

Day 2
Breakfast
9 am departure for guided tour of Palermo's beautiful monuments, byzantine churches, and Capo Market one of the famous Sicilian open air street markets, see the freshest vegetables and fruits, local specialties and spices, the fish mongers hawking their fish and we stop in the middle of the market street to visit a small but beautiful church full of Sicilian baroque marble statues and carvings.
Stop for lunch at a restaurant in the market itself, continue with the tour visiting the beauties of Palermo,
Return to the hotel, relax
8 pm Dinner with local Sicilian specialties

Day 3
8.00 am check out and Departure to see the Greek temple area of Segesta, with its temple similar to the Parthenon, and the agorà or village which has been excavated near the temple.
Light lunch in a restaurant near by.
Continue onto our next destination: San Vito Lo Capo, a lovely seaside village with palm tree and white sand, famous also for specks of red coral in the sand. San Vito Lo Capo is famous also for the Cous Cous Fest in September, an international event for all the Mediterranean countries to showcase their version of Cous Cous.
Stop at Chef Peppe Buffa's Restaurant for the first cooking class on Sicilian typical dishes,
Transfer to the hotel and check to the hotel.

Day 4
Breakfast 8,30 am. we drive to Trapani see the fish market with fisherman selling their fish and the loud bargaining between the vendors and clients! continue to Marsala to visit the historic Marsala Cellars, with wine tasting,
Walk over to Donnafugata, a modern Sicilian winery and visit the wine making facilities, taste their magnificent wines with lunch in one of their beautiful dining rooms. After lunch we proceed to Erice, a 3000 years old hill town, famous for the Venus Cult performed by Greek priestesses,
Famous also for the marzipan fruits made famous by Maria Grammatico, this specialty was made only by the nuns, Maria worked in the convent and then opened her pastry shop.
Return to Chef Peppe Buffa's restataurant for the second cooking class folled by dinner
Day 5
Breakfast
9.30 We the transfer to Chef Peppe Buffa's restaurant for a cooking class on contemporary Sicilian cuisine
Afternoon we will visit a pecorino dairy, see how cheese is made, taste ricotta and fresh pecorino cheese
Dinner at a local restaurant with typical cuisine

Day 6
Breakfast - 8.00 am Full Day excursion to Agrigento,
On the way we stop at Sciacca for a break and to see the port area and fish boats, this town is also famous for the ceramics and the spas.
In Agrigento we visit the Valley of Temples, a large temple area over 2500 years old with some of the most beautiful temples of the entire Greek civilization.
Lunch with local specialties, time to explore Agrigento town and then return to San Vito Lo Capo
We stop for dinner at Chef Peppe Buffa restaurant

Day 7
Breakfast 9.30 We the transfer to Chef Peppe Buffa's restaurant for a cooking class on his specialties,
Afternoon free to relax and stroll in San Vito Lo Capo
Farewell dinner with live sicilian music singing the typical sicilian folk songs.

Day 8
Check out of the hotel on request transportation to Palermo for extra charge.
